OCR

OCR offer two separate sets (suits) of science courses – 21st Century and Gateway. They cover similar material, but you could say that Gateway, which has the strapline “Science in Action”, is slightly more concerned with teaching science in the context of our daily lives, whereas the 21st Century strapline is “Science today for the scientists of tomorrow.”

The 21st Century suite is also known as Science A and the Gateway suite as Science B.

Both offer the following courses:

Science A – also known as Core Science – usually taken in year 10.

Additional Science – Taken after core science for those wishing to get a second science GCSE or going on to triple science.

Biology – A single GCSE in Biology made up of modules from core and additional along with an extension module.

Chemistry – A single GCSE in Chemistry made up of modules from core and additional along with an extension module.

Physics – A single GCSE in Physics made up of modules from core and additional along with an extension module.
